Sao Paulo is going advertising free

Uncategorized — jim on April 16, 2007 at 12:06 pm

A “post”:http://www.boingboing.net/2007/04/14/sao_paulo_goes_adver.html on Boing Boing has pointed to the recent decision of the City of Sao Paulo to go advertising free.

The International Herald Tribune has a “story”:http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/12/12/news/brazil.php about the ban. It seems that the advertising industry is up in arms:

_But advertising and business groups regard the legislation as injurious to society and an affront to their professions. They say that free expression will be inhibited, jobs will be lost and consumers will have less information on which to base purchasing decisions. They also argue that streets will be less safe at night with the loss of lighting from outdoor advertising._

I can’t imagine the fear that I would feel walking down ad-free streets, with nary a bit of information to lead me towards rational consumption decisions. The horror!

Wolfowitz – the end of ethics

Forget about invading Iraq! Forget about the needless deaths of “thousands”:http://www.iraqbodycount.org/ of civilians. It seems that the end to Paul Wolfowitz’s career will be due to a “raise”:http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/16/washington/16bank.html?_r=1&ref=business&oref=slogin improperly given to his girlfriend. It’s good to see that the ethicists are all hard at work.

Googling your way down the toilet

Uncategorized — jim on April 1, 2007 at 11:58 am

Google has finally done it. It seems they they’re rolling out an oh-so-technologically advanced wireless system that piggybacks on the very “system”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toilet that ALL North Americans have pre-installed in their houses. The “TISP”:http://www.google.com/tisp/index.html will revolutionize your toilet and your internet connectivity at once.

I hear that Apple will soon respond with an all-in-one software suite to leverage this newfound connectivity by mobilizing your compost bin.

What’s today’s date, again? Freak’in Ha Ha.
